# Shaadi Muhurat 2026-27: Wedding Dates from November to March, plus a Catering Checklist

October, 2026

26.10.2026

*Chaturmas ends with Dev Uthani Ekadashi on Friday 20 November, and wedding season starts the next day. Below: every vivah muhurat date from November 2026 to March 2027, the weeks with no dates at all, and how much tableware each function needs so the caterer is not short on the night.*

## The short version

The 2026-27 wedding season has 40 muhurat days between 21 November 2026 and 14 March 2027, according to Drik Panchang. November has 4, December 7, January 9, February 13 and March 7. There are no dates between 12 December and 15 January, mostly because of Kharmas, so expect December and late January to book up first. February is the busiest month of the season.

**Who this is for:** families fixing a date, wedding planners, and caterers planning stock for the season.

## Table of Contents

## When does the 2026-27 wedding season start?

**Short answer:** Saturday 21 November 2026, the day after Dev Uthani Ekadashi.

Hindu weddings are not held during Chaturmas, the four months when Lord Vishnu is believed to rest. It ends on Dev Uthani (Prabodhini) Ekadashi, which falls on Friday 20 November this year, and Tulsi Vivah, the ceremonial marriage of the tulsi plant to Shaligram, is held on Saturday 21 November. That same Saturday is the first muhurat of the season.

## Shaadi muhurat dates 2026-27, month by month

**Short answer:** 40 dates in total. The table lists each one with its weekday and nakshatra.

These dates are from Drik Panchang and calculated for New Delhi. Timings change by city, and regional calendars (especially in South India and Bengal) can differ by a day or two, so confirm the exact muhurat and lagna with your family pandit before you book a venue.

Weekend dates go first. If you want a Saturday or Sunday, the options are 21 November, 5, 6 and 12 December, 24, 30 and 31 January, 14, 21, 27 and 28 February, and 14 March. A weekday muhurat usually means better venue rates and caterers with more time for you.

## When are there no wedding dates?

**Short answer:** From 13 December 2026 to 14 January 2027, and again after 14 March 2027.

The December to January gap is Kharmas, the month when the sun is in Sagittarius (Dhanu). It ends with Makar Sankranti in mid-January, which is why the January dates start on the 15th. A second Kharmas starts in mid-March when the sun moves into Pisces (Meena), so 14 March is the last muhurat of the season. Weddings pick up again after mid-April.

## How many plates, bowls and cups per guest?

**Short answer:** For a full buffet meal, plan one large plate, two bowls, one or two small plates for the live counters and two cups per guest, then add 15%.

Guests take a fresh plate when they go back for seconds, live chaat and dessert counters each use their own small plates, and a few get dropped or set down and forgotten. The 15% buffer covers that. These are working estimates; your caterer will know how your crowd eats.

| Function | What is usually served | Per guest |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Haldi or mehendi | Snacks, chaat and a simple lunch | 1 large plate, 1 bowl, 2 small plates, 2 cups |
| Sangeet | Dinner buffet, live counters, drinks | 1 large plate, 2 bowls, 2 small plates, 3 cups |
| Wedding dinner | Full buffet with dessert counter | 1 large plate, 2 bowls, 1 to 2 small plates, 2 cups |
| Reception | Buffet, starters, dessert | 1 large plate, 2 bowls, 2 small plates, 2 cups |

*Tableware per guest for each wedding function. Add 15% to the total.*

### Worked example: 500 guests at the wedding dinner

- 500 guests plus 15% = plan for 575
- Large plates: 575
- Bowls (dal or sabzi, and dessert): 1,150
- Small plates for chaat and dessert counters: about 860
- Cups for water and chai: 1,150

## Which plate for which dish

**Short answer:** Compartment plates for the main buffet so the gravy stays away from the rice and roti, deep plates or bowls for dal and kheer, and small plates for chaat and sweets.

| Main buffet: dal, two sabzis, rice, roti, salad | [12-inch 4-compartment plate](https://pulp-craft.com/product/12-inch-4-compartment-plate/) or [11-inch 4-compartment plate](https://pulp-craft.com/product/11-inch-4-compartment-plate/) |

## Plastic-free catering: what the rules say

**Short answer:** Plastic plates, cups, glasses, cutlery and thermocol decoration have been banned across India since July 2022. That covers wedding caterers too.

Thermocol plates still turn up at weddings because they are cheap, but they bend under hot gravy and the leftovers fill the venue bins by midnight. Bagasse plates are moulded from sugarcane fibre left after the juice is pressed. They hold hot, oily food without going soggy, and they can go into wet waste, where they break down in about 60 to 90 days. Areca leaf plates are the other good option for a rustic look; our comparison of [bagasse and areca leaf plates](https://pulp-craft.com/bagasse-vs-areca-leaf-plates/) covers which suits which menu. For cutlery and cups, use wooden or bamboo spoons, paper cups or kulhads.

Put “no plastic or thermocol” in the catering contract, not just in a conversation. Caterers book several weddings on the same muhurat and stock whatever is cheapest unless the contract says otherwise.

## How to order tableware for a wedding

1. **Fix the guest count per function.** Haldi and mehendi are often half the size of the wedding dinner. Count each one separately.
2. **Get the menu from the caterer.** The number of gravies, live counters and desserts decides how many bowls and small plates you need.
3. **Work out quantities.** Use the per-guest table above and add 15% to every line.
4. **Ask for samples.** Load a plate with hot dal and rice and hold it for ten minutes. If it bends or leaks, it will fail on the night.
5. **Order three to four weeks ahead.** On popular muhurat dates, every caterer in the city is ordering at once. For a 21 to 26 November wedding, that means ordering now.
