The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued a gazette notification banning 17 categories of single-use plastic, and enforcement began in earnest from October 2024. The banned list reaches straight into disposable foodservice: one-time utensils and cutlery, styrofoam food packaging, straws and stirrers, fast-food wrappers and thin plastic films on food packaging.
